Location: Louisiana, USA       Length: 18 min.

The Louisiana State University Rural Life Museum handled the MNHRP-mandated research on Chatsworth Plantation for L’Auberge Casino in Baton Rouge.  This data recovery project is the most extensive archaeological project to date on a Louisiana plantation site.  The project also excavated the remains of slave cabins that lay undisturbed, along with the sugar mill, beneath almost a century of south Louisiana’s riotous vegetation.  This film shows how archaeology can provide the truth behind the moonlight and magnolias image of the Old South.
