Dr. Mark Van Stone, Keynote Speaker for TAC Festival 2012, explains how Maya hieroglyphs are constructed by writing a modern name in ancient phonetic Maya characters. Dr. Van Stone is an expert decipherer and calligrapher; author of "2012 – Science and Prophecy of the Ancient Maya" and co-author of "Reading the Maya Glyphs" with archaeologist Michael Coe. Once thought to be indecipherable, this writing system now is nearly completely intelligible, as Dr. Van Stone demonstrates.
