Technical Help

As you can tell, the new TAC is very different from our old site. However, all the changes have been made in order to make your experience easier and smoother! Here are some tips for learning how to use our new and improved site:

This website is best viewed in Google Chrome. If you use Internet Explorer 8 or 9, or Safari (for Apple products) or Mozilla Firefox (for issues playing videos with Firefox, please see Playing Videos section below), some images may or will be distorted or will not appear. Windows 8 users with Internet Explorer 10 may also experience the same issues.

Video Guide

We have three options for the Video Guide - a LIST of all the titles that can be clicked on to view more details and reveal the player links, a SUMMARY of all our films displaying all of the information and player links, and a MAP which is currently under construction.

Playing Videos

We have two choices of video players for each of our videos on the site, our home made MP4 player and Windows Media Player. To get a video to play, simply click play for our TAC Player (compatible with most browsers and devices, excluding Safari) or click on the size (300K or 700K) of the Windows Media Player file you would like to play. The MP4 will open in a new window or tab, so just close it when you are finished and you will return to your previous page. When you open a file in Windows Media Player, it will take you off of the page you are currently viewing. To return, click on your browser's back button.

Our player will not work with Safari browsers on a Mac or PC, but if you use safari on your iPhone it will play. Let us know if you have problems playing our videos on certain browsers.

Currently: We are aware that Firefox is not playing our MP4 formatted videos. Unfortunately this is a problem with Firefox discontinuing their support of the MP4 format for other web formats, and we are currently looking into a solution for our Firefox patrons. Until that time, we ask for your patience and suggest our 300k–700k formatted version for Firefox, or using Google Chrome for viewing MP4 videos.

Playing Audio

We also have two choices for audio players: MP3 or Windows Media Player. To listen to an MP3, click play mp3. The MP3 will open in a new window or tab, so just close it when you are finished and you will return to your previous page. To use Windows Media Player, simply click on the file size you would like to hear. When you open a file in Windows Media Player, it will take you off of the page you are currently viewing. To return, click on your browser's back button.

Navigating the Site

The site layout is quite different from the old one, but everything is under the same category as it was previously. Hover over the menu item you want to open, and its contents will be shown. If there is a triangle next to an item on the menu, placing your cursor over it will reveal the articles within it.

If you are still struggling to find what you're looking for you can use our search bar towards the top right of the page, under the bar that says The Archaeology Channel.
