Native People from all over California came together in 2011 at the 26th annual California Indian Conference at California State University Chico to discuss issues of cultural sustainability, tradition, the environment, substance abuse and what it means to be an Indian in the 21st century. These are their stories, many of them very sad, but their perspective includes hope for the future and ways to solve problems. Despite 200 years of economic deprivation and cultural loss, Native Californians are still here and finding ways to establish a strong identity in the modern world.
