Archaeological exploration of a five-mile stretch of proposed highway near Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, in the mid-1990s revealed numerous prehistoric archaeological sites dating between 12,000 years ago and A.D. 1400. Working through the winter and employing painstakingly precise methods, the archaeological team revealed surprisingly well preserved house remains and artifacts at two village sites that provide valuable clues to the lifeway of the now-vanished Monongahela people.
